Get To Know The Studio ~ Part 2

kyung jung

Welcome to Part II of our “Get To Know The Studio” blog series!  Throughout the upcoming months, we will also be highlighting some community-related blog posts so you can get to know the area better before, during, or after your photo session with Yellowhale Photography.

Just in case you are new, make sure to check out Part I of the series, which talks about our location and outdoor shooting space.

Today, we will be introducing you to the interior of the studio!

Out of the 1200 square feet our building encompasses, about 800 square feet of that is dedicated to just shooting!  That’s right: two-thirds of our entire space is free for you and your beautiful family to walk, crawl, roll, laugh, and make memories inside.

From the roomy modern couch in front of the large, sunlit window, to our vintage retro chairs tucked into the far corner, when you walk into the Yellowhale Photography studio, you aren’t just limited by one little wall.

Our walls are usually painted a bright white to help reflect all the delicious natural light from the many surrounding windows and skylight above, but every once in awhile, we’ll throw a new paint color on, or incorporate some new elements into the mix.

Our removable barn doors add texture to help make the background of your portraits really pop, and multiple architectural elements add interest and dimension, creating a unique experience for every client.

Sometimes, we will also incorporate some artificial backdrops of paper or cloth, too, depending on what your particular needs are.

But ultimately, we aim to achieve whatever it is our clients want.  Since most prefer a clean, timeless look for their portraits, we strive to make that happen by keeping our furnishings simple, and our walls plain, in order to better focus on the clients themselves.

And of course, we all have a favorite studio item!  Like this couch, which can normally fit 6 people, but has been used before in a family portrait of fourteen individuals!  Whether you bring your precious newborn babies, or your old, trusty fur-babies, all family members are welcome in the Yellowhale studio for their famous close ups.

But the best part of the new studio is that young children, toddlers, and babies can simply be free to run around in delight, and there is always a clean, distraction-free background to capture a picture-perfect portrait.  No need to keep them contained to a specific area against their strong little wills!

Happy Mother's Day

kyung jung

Being a mother is learning about strengths you didn't know you had, and dealing with fears you didn't know existed.

-Linda Wooten

I realize more and more about how amazing and fearless my mother was raising me as I raise my children myself. She was so strong and wise. She still teaches me how to love more and nurture deeper through her life. As a family portrait photographer, celebrating the greatness of motherhood became the pure focus of my passion.

Without her, I would not be able to understand how profound a mom's love could be. Without her, Yellowhale Photography would not even exist because the heart for motherhood is what grew my own. Happy Mother's Day to my very own mom and to all of you mamas out there.

Two Brothers

kyung jung

Adding a new family member is exciting, especially when it is the second child, it gets far more dynamic and fascinating. I have been documenting this stunning family since 2013 and had the privilege to witness them growing.

Watch the big brother trying to help calm his little brother giving pacifier... hugging & watching his new and forever best friend lovingly. It is so amazing to see how the two brothers are bonding at a first sight. It is so precious! It reminds me of my boys when they were young...

So thrilled to preserve the priceless moments of the two for many years... What can a family photographer ask for more?

Happy New Year!

kyung jung

Just returning to the studio from a wonderful and refreshing winter break. As a family portrait photographer, there is no time like January when I get to sit down and think quietly for as long as I need. After the craziness of fall / holiday season, it is a definitely necessary down time to recharge and plan the rest of the year. There are things to update on the website, travels to plan, appointments to schedule for the clients, goals to set personally and professionally, and many other projects to start.

Out of million things to do in the month, my favorite and first project of the year is to review the images of my recent years and selecting few to update the gallery. There are so many familiar little faces have grown so much since the first session. I was there when the baby was just born still in the beautiful round womb shape. I remember that the room was so warm and cosy that it did not feel like working at all for me. I remember how her tiny the little - almost transparent skin- toes were. And now that little baby talks to me about what's happening at her school! She offered me her snack to share during the session and I caught the moment in the video clip, because it was so precious. "Kyung, would you like some crackers?" Every time I see my clients' little ones, most of them I get to see every year, it makes me astonished by how fast and beautifully they grow. Every one of them feel like my own...

I am sure all of you feel the same way about your precious child(ren). With a blink of an eye, my baby is as tall as I am calling mom in his deep man voice. My little one is graduating elementary school this year!

My photographer friend just shared this perfect video on facebook this morning and it made me cry. A parent has 936 weeks between a child’s birth and graduation.... And I thought I would post it as my first blog post in 2016. I hope this touches your heart as it did to me.

While my mind is already chasing to catch all those ambitious missions, I want my 2016 resolution to be "Stay closer to your heart."  I hope I can help you not to miss the moments of your journey, too.

Joyeuses fêtes

kyung jung

At this time of the year, I would like to take a moment to embrace the beautiful and grateful year we had and to look forward to a wonderful new year.

At Yellowhale Photography, I loved the opportunities to document growing families and to share a pieces of life every year with our clients and families around. That a year it has been! 2015 was filled with happiness, love, and share from you all. Some of you brought new additions to the families. Some of your little ones came back with new braces. Some of you visited the studio for the first time... Thank you for being part of Yellowhale!

I am beyond excited about what the new year will bring to you and can not wait to witness the adventures with you.  Cheers to 2016!

Whatever is beautiful,
Whatever is meaningful,
Whatever brings you happiness...
May it be yours this Holiday Season
and throughout the coming year!

Lots of Love,
Kyung, Luke, Ethan, Eric,
& Yellowhale Photography
